Henry's Reading with Expression Learning Story

Learner: Henry Hun          Learning Coach: Bex Remington          Date: 24 March 2015
Learning Area: iDevelop - Reading: Using Expression
Learning Observed

Henry’s literacy group has been working on reading with expression and discussing why expression is so important when we are reading.  We have discussed how it is important to use the punctuation to guide our expression.  The group all chose the same story and chose their different paragraphs to read.  Next week we will be sharing all of these passages within the group and seeing if different expressions make a difference.

Evidence of learning

This is Henry’s chosen passage to read, from a story called Not Normal.
Key Competencies/Vision Principles

Henry is developing his capability when reading to an audience.  He is reading with more expression and enjoys the chance to read aloud to others.  He uses the punctuation within the story to help shape his expression, demonstrating his understanding of language, symbols and text
Next Learning Steps

  • To slow down while he is reading as the expression can be lost in the speed
  • To use different voices for different characters
  • To experiment with tone - reading in a sad voice, angry voice etc
