Willie and Henry have been involved in an extensive and evolving iExplore learning adventure since term 3. They were curious about how we could get their favourite learning and creating tool into OrmPS. They started off interested in doing a pitch for Minecraft and wanted to present this to Mr McNeil in order to get Minecraft on all of our school devices. This stemmed from the statistical investigation they conducted in the habitat which indicated to them that the majority of the learners wanted access to this digital tool at school. They had to collaborate and connect in order to learn about what a pitch was and how to make one. They created a video and demonstrated real curiosities when they ran into difficulties in the product not being as they had envisioned. They needed to develop new capabilities in order to create the product they wanted and would be proud of. They also helped some younger learners with their Minecraft Club setup and supported them by signing up and helping during Club sessions- demonstrating collaboration and capability. In term 4 the learning adventure took a turn and they began to create a ‘Minecraft School’ where they have enlisted the support of 4 other learners to partake in their role play. This is demonstrating collaboration and connectedness as they realise and action what they require in order to reach their goals. I am so proud of their perseverance with this learning and their willingness to adapt their initial plan and not deviate from it entirely.

On the trip to learning the 7 wonders we were looking at Chichen Itza, Christ the Redeemer, Great Wall of China, Machu Picchu, Petra, Taj Mahal, and Colosseum. These are the new 7 wonders of the world, we were using Google cardboard so we could spectate on top of the 7 wonders of the worlds. The 7 wonders group was the first one to use the google cardboard then it was the sharks group then last was Biomes. At the end of the 7 wonders group we were lucky to see 3 more places of the world because of our behaviour.

Partys in the Weekends
In the weekends the date 7 and 8 november I went to 2 partys. 1 of the partys was all about having a fun time and the second party was when someone from Cambodia visited New Zealand or stay for a while. The first party that I went to was when I had a sleepover with my friend on Saturday but my mum didn't want him to come because we might muck around in the house cause their house is clean and she didn't want the spectators to see how her children behaved but we promised her that we will be sensible but we didn't listen, On that day I made a video called Spy Detectives 4 we did lot of acting and lots of fight and also some stunts but I did my own stunts, The funniest part of the video is when my friend Donald says "What did you do to Rotago" and my friend who played the bad guy said "I don't know" in a high voice even dough he was to supposed to say "I killed him" but he made is funny. The second party was on sunday but sadly my sleepover buddy didn't come because he had to go home, We had to drive the car to manurewa it didn't take that long because my mum knew a shortcut. My Mum told me that to be sensible around adults at their house, but I didn't listen when she told me that. The party was about a visitor that came to New Zealand from Cambodia so we had to do a party for that person for some strange reason. We had to eat and eat and eat, then after me and Donald played a game of dodgeball and we had a fun day at their house.

Trick or Treating on Halloween
The Date for Saturday is 31 October which is the date for Halloween, on Halloween is when at night kids or adult wonder to every house in there neighborhood. You go to there door and you knock on there door when they answer the door you say trick or treat so if you get lucky you get a treat but if your the opposite of lucky then you get a trick so they like trick you into do something?. I celebrated Halloween for 3 years, the first year I went trick or treating as a Grim Reaper, the second year I went as The Jack'oLantern and this year I'm going as The superhero Green Hornet sidekick Kato. Kato is a Chinese Sidekick who knows Kung fu, when he was young his parents abandon him to a orphanage but him and some kids ran away to live on the streets but when he lived on the street his grew pain on the streets so he was born to fight. I hope as I walk through the neighborhood I get lucky at every house and get lots of candy on the trip.

The Touch Tournament
Mr Mcneil arranged a touch team to represent our school at Mission Heights Primary School to verse different teams from their school, Our way to getting to Mission Heights was to walk their from Ormiston Primary School to Mission Heights Primary School
So it was a exhausting day for us. Finally we arrived at Mission Heights Primary, there was a lot of talking before we played, we were playing in court A versing 3 other schools for different backgrounds. We were versing Sancta Maria Primary, Rivera Primary and another school that I don't know the name of, It didn't turn out how we expected but we tried our best to get lots of tries, I was lucky to score 2 tries for our team in the touch tournament. We were unlucky because we didn't make it to the semi finals but at least our team tried and had a lot of fun.

My New iExplore
So last term my iExplore was a Minecraft Pitch for the school so we could have Minecraft for the school but then next term which is term 4 we updated our devices to IOS 9 but then when we tried our screen recording system it told us we couldn't record so we told Ms Wilkes that we record but we told her we delayed the Minecraft Pitch until we find a recording system. Our new iExplore is Minecraft School is where we turn Ormiston Primary school into Minecraft I play a teacher called SHF who is a athletics, Physics teacher, Willie play this teacher who teaches his student Maths. We encourage Lim Hor and Richard to be in our project to help us, then Karis told us that she wanted to be in our project so she plays this character called Paris. We are going to continued this project until we find a recording system.

Willie, Henry & Justin's SCRATCH Jump Scare Learning Story - Sept 2015
Learner: Henry, Willie & Justin Learning Coach :DWilkes Date: Sept 2015- Week 8-10 Learning Area: Technology
|
Learning Observed
|
For the past few weeks the learners have been engaged in an innovation station! The learners were given the choice of 4 provocations which included: creating an Ormibot from scratch, designing an object in Tinkercad to print in the 3D printer, designing a Science experiment or designing a series of code using Scratch and Makey Makey each of which would develop their capabilities. Henry, Justin and Willie enjoyed the first week of ‘discovery learning’ where they had some choices of tasks to complete to help them get familiar with the coding programme ‘Scratch’ and the extension kit ‘Makey Makey’ and make connections to their prior knowledge. They watched tutorials, tried out their predictions and played around with the various affordances of the equipment and programme. They used the Makey Makey and Scratch to create a game console successfully. Henry also supported other learners with using the Makey Makey- great collaboration and leadership. For Week 9 and 10 the boys worked collaboratively to design and create a jump scare game using the Scratch programme. In order to piece together the code successfully there was a lot of trialling and prototyping which showed the tenacity and resilience of Willie, Justin and Henry. They showed their curiosity, thinking and managing self skills by looking at what others had done and making connections to what they wanted to achieve. See their game here. Willie even wrote a blog post about it already!

My Progress about my Minecraft iExplore.
For my iExplore I chose Minecraft because I want the school to play Minecraft, so me and willie decided to present the why we should Minecraft in school is by making a Minecraft pitch. So first we made a stage where we are going to record, willie decided that he'll be recording the video and will be the crowd and audiences. Secondly we read a article of how to make a pitch, after we read how to make a pitch we survey the LH1 learners if they wanted to have Minecraft in school. Then me and willie thought we ready to record the pitch so we started recording the video but when we went to our conference we showed some of the learners at our conference and Ms Wilkes gave us some feedback of what we should change, so we we'll make a another of the recording to make it better. So me and willie said that " For the pitch we video we could wear tuxedos or black suits, so we found a app where we could edit our skins to look "Fancy" for the video. We also decided to record a tutorial so we could teach the learners some basic starts of how to start playing Minecraft, Kavish and Daniel made a Minecraft club so when we finish recording the Minecraft pitch they could use the pitch for the learners to decide for the Minecraft club to go through.
Rahi, Willie, Henry & Kevin's Collaborative PE Learning Story
Learner: Kevin, Henry, Rahi & Willie Learning Coach: T.Dillner Date: 4.9.15

The Year 6 learners were grouped to complete Collaborative learning tasks in PE. They had to be able to flip the gymnastics mat without stepping off of it. Kevin, Willie, Henry & Rahi initially had 7 people in their group, which made the challenge even more challenging! With a little help, they were able to figure out that if three people stepped to the side, it would be possible to complete the task. It was very entertaining watching them work it out. All four boys were working together and having a great time all at once. Out of all the Year 6 and Year 4 learners, these boys were the only ones to figure out the trick to this challenge! Great collaborative thinking!

Key Competencies/Vision Principles

Collaboration was key to this activity and all four boys were able to show this skill. It was good to see them communicate with each other, but they might need to remember that calm and clear conversation is the best way to be successful (Participate and Contribute). All four boys showed curiosity when the task was introduced and they were very excited to give it a go. They remained engaged with it until they were finished.
As they were the only group to complete this challenge, Rahi, Henry, Willie and Kevin all showed they were capable of problem solving and finding a solution (Thinking).

Henry's Operation Big Science Learning Story
Learners: Shreya, Henry, Louisa, Nisita Learning Coach: DWilkes Learning Area: Science Sept: August 2015
|
Learning Observed
|
Shreya, Henry, Louisa, Nisita had a blast conducting Operation Big Science in Week 7. Thanks to the New World kit of ingredients. Lots of learning resources as well about the Types of Mixtures and Chemical Reactions in Baking. The learners learned that cooking is scientific fun and that the science capabilities are for life. After initially watching a short video explaining the difference between chemical and physical changes the learners were challenged to explore their curiosity by examining their materials and to discuss their priori knowledge about the materials and cooking with them. They had popcorn, nuts, chocolate, sugar, baking soda, glucose and butter. Then they collaboratively devised an experiment - a cooking experiment, using the ingredients they selected. First they identified a question and then a hypothesis- making connections to their prior knowledge. As a group they needed to plan their method too. During the cooking they made observations- noting what they notice, think and wonder. Henry did well leading the group through their experiment. He also developed some capability at measuring while completing their recipe. Their concoction was a success and they shared it with the other learners. It was collaborative and delicious!

The Talent Show
On Friday there was a special event and that special event was the first ever talent show of the history of ormiston primary and I was lucky because I audition and made it to the finals and came third. My act was a dancing act, there was so many girls of the amounts if boys. On the day of the talent was when i was sick but I was brave enough to fight the sickness in my body and perform in front of the whole school, before the talent show started we had to practise to warm up our confident and wear our clothes for the performing. There was so many singing from the girls that made into the finals, Ved was the only one who played a instrument so that was kind of sad. I could of never came third if I didn't try my best but I did.

Henry's Animal Habitat- Digitise It Learning Story - August 2015
Learner: Henry Learning Coach: DWilkes
Date: August 2015 Learning Area: Science
|
Learning Observed
|
This term the LH1 learners have been learning about animals, adaptations and habitats. They were fortunate enough to go on a field trip to the zoo where the live primates captured the curiosity of Henry and he wanted to learn more about chimpanzees. He has been building his language and developing his understandings of the many ways the natural world can be represented. Henry is very able to recognise that living things are suited to their particular habitat and can discuss the adaptations of specific animals like the chimpanzee. Henry not only recognises that all living things have certain requirements so they can stay alive, he can identify and discuss these for a variety of animals.
The learners were instructed that they needed to create a habitat that would be suitable for their animal. Henry opted for the ‘Digitize It’ option knowing that he wanted to design the cheetah habitat in Minecraft to demonstrate his capability at using it. Henry went through a rigorous design process that involved connecting with information through researching to create a fact file on the Chimpanzee, drawing a draft diagram of what the habitat would look like and then creating it in a digital tool -Minecraft.
Henry collaborated very well- listening to others, supporting others with his knowledge and asking questions. He assisted other learners who were using Minecraft. When it was time to share his learning, he presented the chimpanzee habitat confidently to all of the Learning Coaches and learners in LH1. You can see his assessment here.

Henry's Speech Learning Story - August 2015
Learner: Henry Learning Coach: DWilkes
|
Learning Area: Literacy Date: Aug 2015
|
Learning Observed
|
This term all Year 5-6 learners in LH1 wrote a speech on a topic of their choosing. Oral language is an important skill and Henry refined his knowledge of some language features to enhance both the speaking and writing of his oral presentation. Henry’s speech about ‘Minecraft’ demonstrated his growing ability to be persuasive both through the content and delivery. Henry learned about emotive language features such as the use of adjectives; persuasive features such as rhetorical questions, repetition, quotations, statistics, contrasts and lists of three; and varied sentence structures like statements, questions, exclamations and commands. He learned about the structure of a speech including introductions, endings, sequencing words and how to make his point clear. Henry also explored how to creatively add additional details to make the argument stronger. This was based around the ‘hamburger method’ of speech writing. It was wonderful to see Henry do his persuasive speech on a topic that he is passionate about. His iExplore is all about how we can get Minecraft at OrmPS for enhancing educational experiences too.

Henry cultivated the curiosity of others with his speech about Minecraft- he clearly it! He prompted everyone to wonder if we should have Minecraft. He connected with the audience using emotive language and confident delivery - in our hapu group. He collaborated with other learners while practicing his speech and responded to feedback and in discussing, writing and providing feedback and feed forward to the other learners when they presented their speech or poem. His public speaking capability has grown as a result of this experience. We were very proud of Henry he is a real asset to our OrmPS whanau.
